The course also provides 8 CPD points (4 hours) in the “Knowledge & Skills/Short Courses” category

Description

Aims

This course aims to update the participants’ knowledge and skills in the management of obstetric anaesthetic emergencies while also developing generic crisis management skills applicable to these emergency situations.

Topics covered

1. Assessment of maternal risk

2. Planning anaesthetic management

3. Management of critical events, such as:-

  • Pain during LCSC under neuraxial block
  • Difficult airway
  • High neuraxial block/total spinal
  • Maternal haemorrhage
  • Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia
  • Amniotic fluid embolism
  • Cardiac arrest

4. Human factors and the application of Crisis Resource Management principles to prevent and manage these events

Training Methods

• Immersive scenarios with reflective debriefing

• Hands-on Skills Workshops

• Pause & discuss scenarios

• Video and case-based learning exercises
