Description
Aims
This course aims to update the participants knowledge and skills in the management of obstetric anaesthetic emergencies while also developing general crisis management skills applicable to across all emergency situations. Skills specific to the delivery of safe obstetric anaesthesia will also be addressed.
Instructors
The course will be facilitated by a combination of experienced obstetric anaesthetists and instructors with expertise in simulation and crisis management.
Topics covered:-
1. Current evidence-based or best practice in obstetric anaesthesia
2. Management of critical events, such as:-
· Difficult airway
· High neuraxial block/total spinal
· Maternal haemorrhage
· Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia
· Amniotic fluid embolus
· Neonatal and maternal resuscitation
3. Human factors and the application of crisis management principles to prevent and manage these events

• Immersive scenarios with reflective debriefing
• Hands-on Skills Workshops
• Pause & discuss scenarios
• Video and case-based learning exercises
